You can still make your ship move slower by holding the Shot button down (the arcade had Shot, Bomb, and Auto-Fire buttons), but it doesn’t really seem necessary here, which my grouchy old shoulder should appreciate–for now I’m just hammering Shot repeatedly. Unlike Cave’s DonPachi sci-fi shooter series, the insect-themed Mushihimesama concentrates more on loose bunches of fast-moving enemy bullets, rather than slower, tightly knit patterns–although they can still get pretty thick in, say, Mushi’s Maniac mode. Mushihimesama (Steam version) notes/impressions, only 7 years behind the times: I wonder how many other games do similar things.” This is a wild quirk that I have never encountered in any games in the past, and I’ll need to keep this in mind going forward to show these games as accurately as possible in videos. There is another method that DentNZ shared with me on Twitter, where you can enter the game’s service mode and then press the 1p Start button to exit the service mode, and the game will have the proper rank/difficulty level also, instead of needing to wait for several loops of the demo to play through. With the extended loop shown in this video, and then restarting the game to record the actual run itself, the rank level will not match what would be expected normally here as a result. This is achieved by splitting the video at a static screen with no sound/motion during the demo loop. When recording demo loops for videos, I do it in a separate take to prevent having to re-record the demo every time I take another try at the game itself. A weird quirk about this game is that it starts off on a higher rank when you first boot it, and then returns to normal after the demo loop plays through several times. “This video has some inaccuracy because I didn’t understand how the ranking system changes during the demo loops when recording this.
